JOHN OWSLEY EVANS was born September 18, 1854, in Lincoln County, Ky., and in 1879 removed to Boyle County, where he has since resided. His father, George W. Evans, was born and reared in Pulaski County, Ky.; was an extensive farmer; lost thirty slaves by the late war, and is now living in Lincoln County. He is the son of Josiah Evans, a native of Virginia, who was a farmer, also sheriff of Pulaski County, and who married Keziah Crawford, of Wayne County; their offspring being John, Paulina (Smith); Ellen (Gillmore); George W.; William F. and Elizabeth (Farris). After his death his widow married Mr. Beaty, and their children were Joseph and Jennie (Gillmore). George W. Evans married Mary, daughter of John and Jennie (Shanks) Owsley, of Lincoln County, and from their union spring John O., Ellen (Hutchings), Henry W., Mattie (James), George W. Jr., and Jennie. June 21, 1875, John O. Evans married Ellen, daughter of Joseph and Martha (Owsley) McAlister, of Lincoln County (born in March 1856), and to them have been born Annie May and Harry Moore. Mr. Evans was engaged in merchandising in Stanford; he is now a farmer and stock trader, and owns 150 acres of productive and well improved land. In church relations he is a Baptist, and in politics is identified with the Democratic party. Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Boyle County. WM. F. EVANS was born January 31, 1831, in Pulaski County, Ky., a son of Josiah and Keziah (Ford) Evans, to whom three sons and three daughters were born: Paulina, John H., Ellen, Elizabeth, Geo. W., and William F. Josiah Evans was born in North Carolina, and when a child of three years was brought by his parents to Pulaski County, Ky., where he grew to manhood and became an extensive farmer and slave owner. He served as sheriff for twenty years and died in 1836 at the age of forty-nine. He was a son of John Evans, who was born and reared in North Carolina, was a captain in the war of 1812, and was engaged in the battle of New Orleans. His ancestors came from Wales. Mrs. Keziah (Ford) Evans was born in Culpeper County, Va., a daughter of Zachariah Ford, who came to Pulaski County about 1815, and was an extensive farmer and slaveholder on the Cumberland River. William F. Evans was raised on a farm and educated in the Western Military Institute and taught for a short time. When a child of ten years with his mother he went to Missouri and lived in the first house ever built in St. Joseph; five years later returned to Lincoln County, Ky. In 1866 he located on 400 acres of fine land one mile west of Danville, and also owns 310 in Lincoln County. He has dealt largely in stock, principally cattle, of which he is a large feeder. In July, 1852, he was united in marriage to Josephine Graham, daughter of R. W. and Susan A. (Owsley) Graham. To this union two children have been born: Rob. G. and Jennie (now the wife of M. J. Farris). Mr. Evans and wife are members of the Baptist Church. His first presidential vote was cast for Gen. Scott, but he is now a Democrat.
