Richmond HARRIS1 was born on 23 May 1762 in Bedford Co., Va. He died on 4 Oct 1853 in Garrard Co., Ky. RICHMOND HARRIS was living in Madison County at the time of his death and died intestate in 1853. He owned 75 acres on Paint Lick Creek and Alcorn's Branch on the Kentucky River, and a house where Jarrett Hill now lived. It appears that Richmond Harris' property bordered in Madison and Garrard County lines. A Commissioner's DEED dated April 1, 1854, is recorded in the Madison County Clerk's office, Richmond, and it names the heirs of Richmond Harris.

HISTORY OF HARRIS FAMILY dated 1966, written by Fina B. Harris Moore Gondringer refers to Richmond Harris and several members of his family. Some excerpts: RICHMOND HARRIS was born May 23, 1762, in Bedford Co., VA., and died October 4, 1853, in Garrard Co., KY., at the age of 91. He was a Revolutary War soldier. According to his pension application, Richmond Harris stated that he moved from Bedford Co., Va., to Wake Co., N.C., with his parents when he was a small boy. He was inducted in the army from Wake Co., N.C., and when his term expired, he enlisted for another term. Six years after the war ended, he moved to Garrard Co., KY., which was then a part of MADISON COUNTY.

Richmond was married to Dulcena (Dully)______. After the death of Dulcena, he married Polly Hogan on October 13, 1834. He and Dulcena were the parents of following: 1) JAMES HARRIS who married Sarah Ham; 2) JESSE HARRIS who married Mary (Polly) Embrey; 3) TYREE HARRIS married Rachel; 4) NANCY HARRIS married Richard Burton; 5) RHODA HARRIS married John Hill; 6) SUSANNAH HARRIS married 1st, Job(e) Carpenter (much older) and second to Ben Wheeler; 7) BETSY HARRIS married Thomas Reynolds; 8) PATSY (MARTHA) HARRIS married Walker West; 9) POLLY (NANCY) HARRIS married Richard Burton; 10) NELLY HARRIS married Pleasant Ford.

"In the name of God, Amen. I Robert Harris of the County of Albemarle, being of perfect mind, and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, in manner and form following: first and principally I recommend my soul to God, who gave it me, not doubting but through the merits of my blessed saviour to have full pardon and remission of my sins, and my body, I recommend to the earth from whence it came, to be buried in such manner, as my executors hereafter named shall see fit. And as touching such temporal estate as it hath pleased God to bestow on me, I give and dispose of in manner and form following. Imprimis: I give and bequeath to my son, Christopher Harris forty acres of woodland, ground lying and being in the County of Albemarle, on a large spur of the Blue Bidge of Mountains near to a place commonly called and known by the name of the "Bear cornfield," to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item: I give and bequeath to my son, William Harris, after the decease of my loving wife, Morning (Mourning) Harris, all the land which I hold in the County of Albemarle to him and his heirs forever.
Item: I leave to my loving wife Mourning Harris, the sole use and benefit of all the lands and plantations during her natural life, which is above given to my son, William Harris after her decease.
Item: I leave to the said loving wife, the sole use and benefit during her natural life, six slaves, that is to say, Harry, Peter Dick and Aaron, men, Patta and Nanny, women.
Item: My will and desire is, after the decease of my wife, that if my negro man, Harry should be then living, in that case I give and bequeath the said Harry, to my son, Robert Harris, junior, to him and his heirs.
Item: My will and desire is, after the decease of my wife, that if my negro man, Peter, should be then living, in that case I give and bequeath the said Peter to my son, Tyre Harris, to him and his heirs.
Item: My will and desire is, after the decease of my wife, that if my other four negroes, Dick and Aaron, men, and Patta and Nanny, women, be then living, I give and bequeath them and their increase to my son, William Harris, to him and his heirs.
Item: My will and desire is, that if my son, William Harris should die before he attains the lawful age, or without issue, that in that case, he the said William Harris should be further educated, the charges thereof shall be paid out of the estate given him, after the whole being sold, by my executors herein after named, and the remainder of the money arising from such sale be equally divided amongst all my children, or their legal representatives.
Item: My will and desire is, that my son William Harris to be under the tuition, direction and government of my son-in-law, John Rodes, until he shall attain to lawful age.
Item: I give and bequeath to my loving wife, when all my lawful debts, and funeral expenses is paid all the residue of my estate, be it of whatever nature or quality soever, to her and her heirs forever. I do constitute and nominate and appoint my sons-in-law, John Rodes and William Shelton, to be my executors of this my last will and testament. As witness my hand and seal this eighteenth day of June in the year of Our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and sixty five.

At a Court held for Albemarle County, the 8th day of Aug. 1765, this will presented in Court, proved by the oath of Daniel Maupin and William Maupin witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of John Rodes and William Shelton, the executors therein named, certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof, in due form on giving security. Whereupon they with David Rodes and Christopher Harris their securites entered into and acknowledged their bond according to law.

James Glenn andMourning Winn were the parents of Mourning, born in 1702. Robert wasknown as Major, but we don't know why. He was an early surveyor of NewKent County before he moved to Albemarle County. A great deal is knownabout his son, Tyree Harris, High Sheriff of Orange County, NorthCarolina.

William H. Miller was born October 22, 1852, in Madison County, Ky., and is
the eighth of six sons and four daughters now living born to Christopher I.
and Talitha (Harris) Miller.

The father of these children was born December 20, 1813, on Hickory Lick
Creek, Madison County. He was a skillful blacksmith and a good farmer. He
was the son of Daniel Miller, who was born in Albemarle County, Va., May 28,
1764, and who married Susan Woods of Nelson County, Va., November 28, 1792,
and in a few years after he moved to Madison County, Ky., and located on
Drowning Creek, where he lived until his death, April 23, 1841. Daniel Miller
and wife had ten children: Polly; Robert; Gen. John Miller, who was mortally
wounded near Mount Zion Church, Madison County, while trying to rally a


column of Union soldiers, and whose remains lie in the Richmond Cemetery; James;
Elizabeth; Susannah; Margaret; Malinda; Thomas W. and Christopher I. Daniel
Miller was a son of Robert Miller, who reared a family of three sons and six
daughters. The sons were John, Thomas and Daniel. Robert Miller was a


brother of Col. John Miller, who immigrated to and located and built the
first house in Richmond. Robert Miller married Peggy Maupin, who was of
French parentage. Mrs. Talitha (Harris) Miller was born March 17, 1815, on
Drowning Creek, Madison County. She died January 2, 1882, and was the
daughter of Christopher (first judge of Madison County Court) and Sallie
(Wallace) Harris of Albemarle County, Va. Christopher Harris was a son of
John and Margaret (Maupin) Harris, natives of Virginia, who came to Kentucky
as early as 1790, when Christopher was a mere child. John Harris was a sone
of Christopher Harris, a Baptist minister, who married Miss McCord.
