From the will it is noted that Walter left bequest to two persons other than his wife, one of these is Sally Dickerson, her daughter from her prior marriage. On the 1830 census it is indicated there were two females between age 10 and 15. Since Walter and Sally were not married til 1821, neither would be Walter's child, so perhaps (Cathey) Wilson is another daughter from Sarah's prior marriage.
Sally is on the Jessamine County tax list from 1844 to 1854. She has possession of the 50 acres on Hickman Creek in 1845 but only 30 acres from 1846 and thereafter. She is on the 1850 census of Jessamine County. Parents: William BRUMFIELD and Mary GROW. Parents: J. William BRUMFIELD and Mary GROW.

Will BRUMFIELD.2 Parents: James Matt BRUMFIELD and Annie JOHNSON.

William BRUMFIELD1 was born about 1718. He died about 1799 in Charlotte Co., VA. On the 21 March 1739 he witnessed a purchase of land by his father from Hans Hendrick in Amelia County, Virginia. In an order in Amelia Co on 19 Feb 1741 hance Hendric was appointed Surveyor of road from Crafford house into Burton's road over Flatt Creek: Hohn Harris, William Wilkinson, William Brumfield, William Farley Jr, James Brumfield Jr. John Hendrick, hance Hendrick Jr and Pillamon Childress to be employed hereon. On 22 Nov 1745 he is living on property owned by his father lying between Saylor's Creek of the branches of Dawson's Creek on both sides of the road.
On 5 Sep 1749 William Brumfield of Lunenburg Co, Va purchased 404 acres on upper side of Little Roanoke adjoining Reads land. Also in 1749 on the motion of William Brumfield, his ear mark, to wit a crop and a slit in the left ear and a swallow fork and underkiel in the right is ordered to be recorded in Lunenburg Co. William is shown on Caldwell's list of tithables in 1749 and 1750; by himself as 1 tithable and along with his father, James Brumfield Sr as two tithables. On 1 Oct 1750 William Broomfield is to be allowed one parish levie at laying the levy in Lunenburg Co. On 22 Nov 1750 William Broomfield is shown in the Cumberland Parish Vestry Book in Lunenburg Co and has been assessed 39 pounds apparently as a levy. In 1762 in Lunenburg Co, William Brumfield was a petitioner in a suit against Jessie Bryant who is the defendant. The said defendant not appearing although duly summoned; judgement for the petitioner for two pounds, nine shillings, nine pence and costs. On 14 June 1764 William Brumfield was appointed overseer of roads in Lunenburg Co in room of Rees Hughes. In 1764 William Brumfield and John Brumfield were 3 tithes in Caldwell's list. William has 400 acres of land in Cornwall Parish, Bedford Co, Va. This John Brumfield is apparently William's son, who is about 24 years of age at the time.
By 1770 William is shown in Charlotte Co, Va. Charlotte Co appears to have been formed partly from Lunenburg Co and the tithable list previously showing William being in Lunenburg Co indicates that it is subsequently the northeast corner of Charlotte Co; so it is probable that William has not moved but rather ended up in Charlotte Co when it was formed.
On the 26 July 1770 Wm Brumfield along with James Bouldin and Charles Clayton are appointed appraisors for the inventory of the estate of John Worthy. On the 2 March 1770 John Jones of Dinwiddie Co sold to William Brumfield of Charlotte Co 224 acres in Charlotte Co on the branches of Little Roanoke Creek. Also on 2 March 1770 John Jones of Dinwiddie Co sold to William Brumfield of Charlotte Co 178 acres in Charlotte Co on the branches of Little Roanoke Creek...bouned by Farmer's line, John Given's line, Stephen Towne's line and Lunderman's(?) line. On 1 May 1775 William Whitwell, orphan of Thomas Whitwell, was bound to William Brumfield of Charlotte Co and Robert Whitwell to William Overton, orphans of Thomas Whitwell. This action was discharged 4 Jan 1790. In the census of 1782/5 for Charlotte Co, William Brumfield was head of household consisting of 7 whites. On 15 Dec 1798 William Brumfield sold three parcels of land; 108 acres to William Williams of Charlotte Co, 26 acres on Little Roanoke to James Inge of Charlotte Co, and an unknown number of acres on Little Roanoke to Eli Roby of Charlotte Co. There was no dower release. Perhaps his wife had died by this time. On the 18 May 1799 William Brumfield sold 404 acres on Little Roanoke Creek to John Daniels of Charlotte Co, being the tract of which William then lived, agreeable to patent dated 5 Sep 1749. Appears this is same land he had purchased in Lunenburg Co as of that date so it is apparent he never moved.
William Brumfield's will was written 9 Feb 1797 and probated 2 Dec 1799 in Charlotte Co, Va. In it he states he is 'of great age and dibility of body.' (1) I give to my son John and daughter Mary last heard by the name of Mary Hall both supposed to be in the State of Kentucky each the sum of one shilling as a full compensation for their duty and affection towards me. (2) I give and devise to my daughter Judith now wife of Reubin Traynum and formerly wife of William Overton two hundred and twenty-four acres of land within the County of Charlotte whereon Reubin Traynum now resides and keeps a publick house. (for life of Judith) and fter herr death I give and devise and bequeath the said lands to the four children of Wm Overton by the said Judith, to wit, Moses, Anne, Susannah, and Sarah to be equally divided. (3) I give and devise to Robert and Elizabeth Featherstone, children of Carolus Featherstone by my late daughter Gillie each the sum of $20.00. (6)? I give and bequeath to my beloved son Obadiah Brumfield and to his heirs forever the whole residue and remainder of my estate real and personal. Lastly, I appoint my son Obadiah executor of this will. Signed William Brumfield, L.S. Witnesses: P Carrington, Wm Bouldin, James Bouldin, James Bouldin Jr. Joseph Reynolds and Carolus Featherstone were security. Inventory witnessed by Richard J Lipscomb, Stephen Farmer and W W Bouldin.
