Hello all,
This is my first message to your list but I have been lurking for a few
weeks - actually since this list was started. After returning home from
your fair county a few days ago and catching my breath, I want to tell you
all how thoroughly exciting it was to join you in Jessamine County for your
4th of July celebration at the Price homestead.
I met a few of you folks (Clyde, Rita, Cynthia and of course, my cousin
Kathy Hall) and enjoyed listening to you all at the picnic. There are
simply not enough complementary words to say about that event or the many
people who pulled together to put it together. It was absolutely amazing!
Every detail seemed to have been arranged. There was no want for anything
(except maybe a cooler day).
Col. William Price is my 4th great-grandfather and I am proud to have a
heritage in your county. The introductory speeches for the picnic were
wonderful and then the march to Wm. Price's gravesite headed by the bagpipes
and the Rev War soldiers and the placing of the wreath. (I just wanted to
cry with emotion).
The food was wonderful and ample. And the homemade desserts.....too many to
choose from. The exhibit tables were placed in the shade and had very
knowledgeable people maning them. There just was not time to see it all!
And then the readings about all the Rev War soldiers who attended the first
4th picnic at that same site! It was overwhelming to hear about these men.
It was a nice touch to have men who attended the picnic stand in for those
who were originally there as the bios were read about each one. I do hope
that those bios will be included in the website.
As amazing as that picnic and all the effort which went into it was, the
most impressive part of this is the group of dedicated people you have in
the county which are interested in preserving your heritage. I suppose
there might be other counties who do as much, but I have no knowledge of
them. You all are a wonderful group of people and I applaud you (if
possible by email). There are just not enough good words to say. And I do
plan on coming back soon to do some research and hope to meet more of you
then.
