(p. 117) This indenture made the twenty eighth day of August one thousand eight hundred between Joseph Hughes and Sarah Hughes of the County of Jessamine State of Kentucky of the one party and Robert Chambers of Washington County and state aforesaid of the other party witnessed that the said Joseph Hughes and Sarah Hughes his wife his wife for and in consideration of the sum of ninety seven pounds ten shillings by the said Robert Chambers to the said Joseph Hughes in hand paid and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt of which the said Joseph Hughes doth hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Robert Chambers his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract of land situate lying and being in the County of Washington on the dividing ridge of the waters of Pleasant river and Cartwright's - creek and containing three hundred and twenty five acres of land more or less and bounded as follows. To wit, beginning at two dogwoods corner with Kenniston and Burnet thence south to two white oaks thence east to two dogwoods and white oaks thence north to a red oak thence east to a black oak & poplar on the old line corner with Brunt thence north to a black marked J - K ash and white oak corner with Sandowsky Swan and Lewis, thence to west to two white oaks and a hickory thence south to three dogwoods thence west to the beginning Together with all and singular profit and advantage whatsoever to said land belonging or anywise appertaining thereto to have and to hold the said tract of land of three hundred & twenty five acres of Land with all the houses buildings orchards waters and appurtenances unto the said Robert Chambers his heirs & assigns forever and that the said Joseph Hughes and Sarah Hughes his wife for themselves and their heirs do covenant grant and agree said Robert Chambers his heirs and assigns shall and (p. 118) may forever hereafter hold use occupy and profit and peaceably enjoy all and singular the said tract of land and premises hereby granted unto him the said Robert Chambers his heirs and assigns forever and lastly that the said Joseph Hughes and Sarah Hughes his wife shall forever warrant and defend the title of said land and premises together with their and every of their appurtenances that is thereon or any wise thereto pertaining as aforesaid firmly by these presents against the challenge claim demand or molestation of us our heirs executors administrators or any other person or persons whatsoever in witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals the day and date above written signed sealed & delivered in presence of Joseph Hughes (seal) Sarah Hughes (seal) We do hereby certify that Joseph Hughes and Sarah Hughes his wife she being examined as the law directs acknowledged the above deed given under our hands this 28 day of August 1800. (P. 119) This indenture made the 28th of August Eighteen hundred Between Joseph Hughes and Sarah Hughes his wife of the County of Jessamine and State of Kentucky of the one party and William Hobson of Green County aforesaid State witnessed that the said Joseph Hughes and Sarah his wife for and in consideration of in consideration of (sic) the sum of twenty four pounds by the said William Hobson to the said Joseph Hughes and Sarah Hughes his wife in hand paid at and before the J sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which the said Joseph Hughes doth hereby acknowledge have granted bargained & sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said William Hobson his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract of land situate lying and being in the county of Washington on the dividing ridge of the waters of Pleasant Run and Cartwright's Creek containing eighty acres land more or less and bounded as follows to wit: Beginning at a white oak corner to coppage thence east to two white oaks thence north to two dogwoods thence west to a black oak & dogwood thence south to the beginning. Together with all and singular appurtenances profit and advantage whatever to said land belonging or anywise appertaining thereto to have and to hold the said eighty acres of land and appurtenances unto the said William Hobson his heirs and assigns forever and that the said Joseph Hughes & Sarah his wife for themselves and their heirs do hereby covenant grant & agree that the said Will Hobson his heirs and assigns shall & may hereafter forever hold use and occupy possess and peaceably enjoy all and singular the said tract of land and shall forever warrant and defend the title of the land and premises together with and every of the appurtenances that is thereon or anywise thereto pertaining (p. 120) firmly by these presents against the claim challenge property or molestation of us or our heirs executors or administrators or any other person or persons whatsoever. Hughes Beginning running thence south to a Black oak and dogwood thence and to three dogwoods thence north to two white oaks and hickory thence west to the beginning Together with all and singular profit and advantage whatsoever to said land belonging or anywise appertaining thereto to have and to hold the said one hundred acres of land with all the houses buildings orchards waters and appurtenances unto the said John Burnet his heirs & assigns forever. (P.124) This indenture made and concluded on the 30th day of September in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred by and between Flanders Callaway and Gemima Callaway his wife of the County of Jessamine of the one part and James Young and John Young of the other part Witnessed that whereas the said Flanders Callaway and Gemima his wife has this day bargained and sold unto the aforesaid James and John Young a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Jessamine on the waters of Hickman containing two hundred & eighty-three acres and a quarter for the consideration of five hundred and sixteen pounds cash to us in hand paid by the said James and John Young before the signing and sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt thereof we the said Flanders Callaway and Gemima his wife do hereby acknowledge & confess ourselves fully satisfied & paid and by these presents do forever exonerate and discharge the said Jas. & John Young by these presents the said tract of land containing by survey two hundred and eighty three acres and a quarter be the same more or less and bounded as followed. (p.126) This indenture made this 18th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred between James Buford Jun. Attorney in fact for James Bramblet of the County of Bedford and State of Virginia of the one part and William Shreves of the County of Jessamine and State of Kentucky of the other part witnessed that the said James Buford Junior as attorney aforesaid for and inconsideration of the sum of two hundred pounds to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have hereby granted bargained & sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William Shreves a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Jessamine containing three hundred and seventy acres being part of a tract of 716 acres laying on the waters of Hickman creek patented in the name of said Bramblet and bounded as follows. To wit Beginning at a sugar tree red and white oak in southalls line running S[ ] W 124 poles to stake near a sinkhole thence N 89° W. 118 poles to two hickories and sugar tree thence S 3° E 90 poles a white oak corner to George Fry thence N 58 1/2° W. 62 poles to a stake in Samuel Reeds line thence with his line N 1° W. 100NN poles red oak thence west 160 poles with another line of said Reeds to a dogwood hickory and sugar tree thence N 60° W 30 poles to a black ash, elm and white oak marked B, thence N. 29° E 213 poles to two hickories & elm in McClure's line thence with his line S. 62° E. crossing Southalls corner 297 poles to the beginning. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land together with all its appurtenances from him the said James Buford. Jun. as attorney aforesaid to the only use and profit of the said William Shreves his heirs and assigns forever and the said James Buford Jun. As attorney aforesaid his heirs & (P. 127) assigns doth and will warrant and forever defend the aforesaid land against themselves their heirs or every other person or persons claiming the same. Woodson This indenture made the twelfth day of October in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and ninety eight between David Wilson and Eleanor Wilson his wife of the County of Fayette and State of Kentucky of the one part and Adam Lynn of the County of Rocbridge and State of Virginia of the other part Witnessed that the said David Wilson and Eleanor his wife for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and twenty pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Adam Lynn (the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge) (p.128) hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Adam Lynn one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county of Rockbridge on Rock Creek in borders large grant adjoining the lands James McCampbell and Henry Horn and is bounded as follows (the corners being set agreeable to the true meridian) containing one hundred and sixty acres be the same more or less viz - Beginning at a red oak and ash on the west bank of said creek corner to James Mc Campbells land thence with his line north sixty eight degrees and a half, west one hundred & fifty six poles to two white oaks and a hickory in McCampbells line thence north twenty five degrees east one hundred and eighty poles to a white oak and black oak corner to Henry Horns land thence with his line south forty one degrees and twenty minutes east eighty poles to two white oak saplings on the west bank of said creek corner to said Horn then down the creek with the several courses of same one hundred and eight poles to the beginning to have and to hold the said granted lands and premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Adam Lynn his heirs & assigns forever and the said David Wilson and Eleonor his wife for themselves their heirs exrs. & adms. the said granted lands and all and singular the privileges & advantages thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining unto the said Adam Lynn his heirs exrs. Woodson clerk This Indenture made this tenth day of September in the year one thousand eight hundred between Jerushia Farris widow of Isaac Farris deceased James Bird and Susanna his wife John Thomas Farris, Elizabeth Farris George Washington Farris Wilmoth Farris and Isaac Farris infant heirs and representatives of the said Isaac Farris deceased of the County of Lincoln by Archibald Dickerson Peter Trisler and James Dunn commissioners by and on the part of the said infants appointed by the county court of Jessamine County in the month of March 1800 and John Bowman of the county of Mercer and state of Kentucky of the one part and John Franklin of the county of Jessamine and state aforesaid of the other part Witnessed (p.130) that whereas by an act of assembly passed on the first day of March 1797 entitled an act to reduce into one the several acts for the conveyance and division of lands it is provided that where any person shall die intestate [ ] leaving his heirs or any of them infants and having before his death executed a bond [ ] binding himself to convey any tract or parcel of land that in such cases the court of the county wherein the land shall be shall have power on the application of the person to whom such bond is given to appoint three fit persons as commissioners who in conjunction with the other heirs above the age of twenty one years shall have full power and authority to convey such tract or parcel of land agreeably to tenor of such bond. And whereas Isaac Farris did with James Farris his security on the ninth day of December 1784 execute a bond in the penalty of four hundred pounds conditioned for the conveyance of four hundred acres of land lying in the then county of Fayette (now Jessamine) on Jessamine creek which bond is now of record in the court of Jessamine County reference being had thereto will more fully appear) the said Isaac Farris afterward departed this life not having made the said conveyance and leaving the said Jerussia Farris his widow, the said James Bird husband of the said Susanna daughter of the said Isaac now of the age of twenty one years and the said John Thomas Farris Elizabeth Farris George Washington Farris Wilmoth Farris and Isaac Farris his children, infants under the age of twenty one years and on the application of the said John Franklin to the county court aforesaid the said Archibald Dickerson Peter Trisler and James Dunn were appointed commissioners according to the before recited act on the part of the said infant heirs of the said Isaac Farris deceased to make conveyance in conjunction with the heirs who are of full age to John Franklin of the said four hundred acres of land according to the term of the said bond. (p. 131) Now this indenture further witnessed that the said Jerussia Farris James Bird & Susanna his wife and the said Archibald Dickerson Peter Trisler & James Dunn commissioners as aforesaid by and on the part of part of the said infants and John Bowman by virtue of and in consideration of the before mentioned provisions and powers in them vested aforesaid have granted bargained sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell alien & confirm unto the said John Franklin and his heirs forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Jessamine situate on the waters of Jesamine creek and bounded as follows viz Beginning in the middle of John Greathouses mill pond about eight poles north of the mill house thence north twenty degrees east five hundred and twenty poles to three white ashes thence north seventy degrees west one hundred and ninety poles to four buckeyes thence south sixteen degrees west two hundred and fifty poles to four hickories on the bank of Jessamine creek thence down said creek with the several meanders thereof as follows viz thence south eleven degrees east one hundred & forty poles thence south twenty degrees east thirty six poles thence south ninety six poles thence south thirty five degrees east twenty four poles thence south thirty four poles to the beginning containing by estimation four hundred acres of land be the same more or less. Together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to have and to hold the said land and premises hereby bargained and sold or intended so to be, with their & every of their appurtenances unto the said John Franklin and his heirs forever and the said Jerussia Farris James Bird & Susanna his wife and Archibald Dickerson , Peter Trisler & James Dunn commissioners as aforesaid on the part of the said John Thomas Farris Elizabeth Farris George Washington Farris Wilmoth Farris and Isaac Farris infants as aforesaid and John Bowman for themselves their heirs (p. 132) executors and administrators do covenant grant and agree together with the said John Franklin and his heirs and assigns forever that he the said John Franklin and his heirs the before mentioned bargained promises with their and every of their appurtenances is free and clear from all former and other gifts grants bargains sales dowers rights and titles of dower and against all former and other titles troubles charges and encumbrances whatsoever done or suffered to be done by them the said Jerusssia Farris widow James Bird & Susanna his wife Archibald Dickerson Peter Trisler and James Dunn commissioners as aforesaid for the said infants and John Bowman or any other person lawfully claiming under them they the said Jerussia Farris James Bird and Susanna his wife and Archibald Dickerson Peter Trisler & James Dunn Commissioners as aforesaid for the said John Thomas Farris Elizabeth Farris George Washington Farris Wilmoth Farris and Isaac Farris infants as aforesaid and John Bowman will forever warrant and defend against the claim of all persons claiming under them In Witness whereof the said Jerussia Farris widow James Bird & Susanna his wife and Archibald Dickerson, Peter Trisler and James Dunn commissioners as aforesaid on the part of the aforesaid infants and John Bowman have hereto set hands & seals the day & year above written. Woodson (p. 133) This Indenture made the 17th day of September in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred between Cornelius Empson and Hannah Empson his wife of Jessamine County and state of Kentucky of the one part and John Need of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnessed that the said Cornelius Empson and Hannah Empson his wife for and in consideration of one hundred and eighty two pounds current money of Kentucky to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they doth hereby acknowledge and themselves fully satisfied and paid hath granted bargained & sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said John Need a certain tract or parcel of land containing seventy three acres lying and being in Jessamine County and State of Kentucky on the waters of Hickman creek and bounded as followed To wit, Beginning at two sugar trees and a hickory in Daugherty's line thence south one hundred and two poles crossing the spring branch to three white oaks and a buckeye on the side of a hill thence west seventy one poles to a sugar tree and elm in Shelby's old line and with the same south eighteen degrees west ninety seven poles to two walnuts and white oak by a sinkhole thence north two degrees west one hundred and eighty five poles to three sugar tree stumps thence south seventy five degrees east forty one poles to a stake. Thence north fourteen degrees east twenty eight poles to a stake thence south eighty degrees east fifty seven poles to the beginning to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and singular the premises thereunto belonging to the said Jn. Woodson This indenture made this twenty first day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred between David Arnet of the county of Lincoln & district of Kentucky and James Arnet of the county of Fayette and district aforesaid of the one part and James Owens of the county of Jessamine of the other part Witnessed that the said David and James Arnet for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred pounds current money of the state of Kentucky to them in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt of which they do hereby acknowledge and thereof doth acquit and forever discharge the said James Arnet and to his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract or parcel (p. 135) of land situate lying and being in the county of Jessamine and on the head waters of south Elkhorn it being part of Adam Stephenson's Military survey and bounded as follows to wit. Beginning at a red oak corner to Proctors thence north thirty one east one hundred and thirty poles to two walnuts, thence north sixty three, west one hundred twenty three, to two hickorys and thorn, thence south, - thirty one west one hundred and thirty poles to a double ash and honey locust corner to procter thence south sixty three, east one hundred and twenty three poles to the beginning containing by estimation one hundred acres to the sum more or less to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and all and singular the premises thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining thereto, and the reversion and reversion remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof and every part and parcel thereof unto the said James Owens and his heirs and assigns forever to his and their only proper use and behoove and the said David and James Arnet for themselves and their heirs the before granted land and premises will warrant and forever defend, with a general warrantee, against the claim and demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever. Woodson, clerk of the county aforesaid do hereby certify that the within deed between David Arnet of the County of Lincoln and James Arnet of the County of Fayette, State of Kentucky of the one part and James Owens of the County of Jessamine and state aforesaid of the other part was produced before me acknowledged by the said David and James Arnet to be their act and deed [ ] (p. 136) This indenture made this 26th day of December one thousand eight hundred between Gabriel Madison of Jessamine County and State of Kentucky of the one part and William Croghan of Jefferson County and State aforesaid of other part. Witnessed that the said Gabriel Madison for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said William Croghan his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being on the north west side of the river Ohio in the grant made by the State of Virginia to General George Rogers Clark and the officers and soldiers of his Regiment commonly called the Illinois grant known in the plan of the said grant by the number two hundred and sixty seven containing five hundred acres which five hundred acres was part of Captain Abraham Chaplins claim to land in said grant and assigns on the plat of survey by said Chaplin to said Croghan and Madison on which assignment the Commissioners of said Illinois Grant did execute a deed to said Croghan and Madison the 18th day of July 1788. With its appurtenances to have and to hold all the said Madisons right bills and claims to his the said Madisons [ ] or one half of the said five hundred acres of land (p. 137) N. 26° with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said William Croghan his Heirs and assigns forever and the said Gabriel Madison doth for himself and his heirs further covenant and agree with the said William Croghan his heirs and asigns that he the said Gabriel Madison shall and will warrant and forever defend the said tract or parcel of land and appurtenances unto the said William Croghan his heirs and assigns from the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever.
