Deed Books A and B 1799-1810 (p. 199) Know all men by these presents that I Helen Call of the state of Kentucky and county of Logan do by these presents nominate constitute and appoint John Watts of the state of Virginia and county of Campbell my true and lawful attorney in fact for me and in my name behalf to settle and adjust all matters between me and Major. Nicholas Long of the state of Georgia and also to do and to act in all matters and things respecting my lands or claims to lands in the said state of Georgia as devised of my late husband William Call with power to prosecute in my name and to defend such suits as are commenced or that may be commenced against me in as full and ample a manner as though. I myself were present and in case my said attorney John Watts shall think proper so to do to dispose of all or any part of my claim or claims to land in the said state of Georgia to make title therefore in my name and on my behalf also to demand and receive all debts due me as devised of my said husband William Call in the said state of Georgia. I hereby ratify whatsoever my said attorney shall lawfully do in the premises as fully and effectually as if such act or acts had been done by myself in person. Woodson, clerk of the county aforesaid being duly authorized by the laws of this commonwealth to receive the proof or acknowledgement of deeds or other instruments of writing and to admit the same to record do hereby certify that the foregoing power of attorney from Helen Call by Geo Wallker her attorney in fact to John Watts was produced before me acknowledged by the said Geo Walker to be his act and deed is duly recorded in my office. Thomas Caldwell (seal) (p. 201) I George Walker of the State of Kentucky and county of Jessamine by virtue of a power of attorney from Helen Call of the county of Logan and State aforesaid a copy of which is hereto subjoined I have with the authority aforesaid for and in behalf of the said Helen Call made John Watts of the County of Campbell and state of Virginia attorney in fact with full power to transact all of the business in the state of Virginia Georgia that said Helen Hall has at this time or that she may be hereafter concerned in either as devised of her late husband William Call or as executor to her said husband for and in consideration of the personal services and expenses that the said John Watts will be at on behalf of the said Helen Call in settling and adjusting her business in the said state of Georgia I do oblige the said Helen Hall her heirs exrs. And admrs. under the penalty of Ten Thousand dollars to make the said John Watts a right to one half of whatever he the said John Watts shall recover in the name of the said Helen Call as devised to her said husband William Call deceased whither the same may be in lands money or other property provided nevertheless that said Helen Call shall not be obliged to make any other conveyance or conveyances but such as shall warrant the land or property from her the said Helen Call and her heirs & from no other person or persons whatsoever and it is further to be understood that the said Helen Call shall not be at any expense or expenses whatsoever, but that the said John Watts shall at his own proper cost and expense bring suits and do such other things as shall be necessary without any further compensation than is herein stated that is to say half of that he shall recover. Walker of the County and state aforesaid my true and lawful attorney in fact and do hereby give him full power and authority to do such matters and things as he shall deem necessary and right for the recovery of any claim or claims of lands in this state or in any other more especially for the special purpose of recovering my right to lands in the state of Georgia as devised of my late husband William Call I do hereby authorize my said attorney to sell or dispose of all or any part of my said land and claims in the aforesaid state of Georgia to receive payment for the same to give receipts to make conveyance or conveyances to give or take any instrument of writing and to take every step he may think necessary and proper for the recovering and securing any moneys land or other property I may be entitled to, sue ask and demand in my name to make any power or powers of attorney that he may deem necessary I do hereby ratify and confirm all my said attorney shall lawfully do & it shall be as effectual as if I myself were personally present. Woodson This Indenture made this eighth day of May in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and one between James Crutcher and Nancy his wife of the one part and Obadiah Newman of the County of Jefferson of the other part WITNESSETH that the said James Crutcher and Nancy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred pounds to the said James Crutcher in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained sold aliened [ ] released conveyed and confirmed unto the said Obadiah Newman and his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Warren on west fork of the middle fork of Cays creek and bounded as followed (Viz) Beginning at a beech and Hickory corner to Abraham Chaplin's survey number one Thousand (p. 204) nine hundred and seventy running with Chaplin's line north seventy east two hundred and thirty poles crossing the creek at eighty two poles to a black oak white oak and chestnut thence south sixty one east three hundred and fifteen poles to a sugar tree beech and dogwood on the side of the branch thence south seventy west three hundred and fifty six poles crossing the creek at fifty six poles to a black walnut black gum and white oak thence north fifty five west two hundred and eighty poles to a spanish oak, hickory and ash thence north seventy east eighty two poles to the Beginning containing the full quantity of four hundred and seventy eight acres it being the same tract of land which was granted to the said James Crutcher as assignees of Thornton Taylor and within the district set apart for the officers and soldiers of the Virginia continental lines by patent bearing date the eighteenth day of October 1798 together with all and singular its appurtenances to have and to hold, the aforesaid tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto the said Obadiah Newman and his heirs and assigns to his and their own proper use benefit and behoove forever free and clear from all manner of encumbrances and James Crutcher & Nancy his wife [ ] & their heirs Exrs. to and with the sd. said Obadiah Newman and his heirs and assigns forever do hereby grant covenant and agree that the before described and hereby conveyed tract of land with its appurtenances and every part and parcel thereof he and they shall and will warrant and forever (p. 205) defend against the claim and demand of all manner of persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same In Testimony whereof the said James Crutcher and Nancy his wife have hereto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first mentioned. Woodson (p. 206) This Indenture made this eighth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one between James Crutcher and Nancy his wife of the one part & Obediah Newman of the county of Jefferson of the other part WITNESSETH that the said James Crutcher and Nancy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred pounds current money of Kentucky to the said James in hand paid before the sealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof is duly acknowledged and the said Obediah Newman and his heirs Exrs. etc. There from forever exonerated HAVE granted bargained sold aliened [ } released conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do and each of them doth grant bargain sell alien [ ] release convey and confirm unto the said Obediah Newman and his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract of land situate lying and being in the County of Warren in the state of Kentucky and bounded as followed, BEGINNING at a white oak spanish oak and hickory on the bank of the middle fork of Cays creek in the upper line of Benjamin Duncans survey No 1884 and lower corner to Benjamin Harris' survey No.1808 running up the creek No. 73° east south 62 east 42 south 85° east 106 poles so. 55 east 50 poles to a black walnut hickory sugar tree honey locust upper corner to Harris thence so. 260 poles to an ash elm and hickory in a hollow thence west 194 poles to a black oak beech and black gum on a stony ridge thence N. 10° west 300 poles crossing a dry branch at 100 poles passing Duncans corner and with his line to the Beginning containing the full quantity of four hundred acres it being the same tract of land which was granted to said James Crutcher as assigned of Thornton Taylor by patents bearing date 18th October 1798 with all and singular its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract of land with all and singular its appurtenances (p. 207) unto the said Obediah Newman and his heirs and assigns to his and their own proper use benefit and behoove forever free and clear of and from all manner of encumbrances whatsoever and the said James Crutcher and Nancy his wife for themselves and their heirs to and with the said Obediah Newman his heirs and assigns forever do hereby grant covenant and agree that the before described & hereby conveyed tract of land and every part thereof they shall and will at all times hereafter warrant and defend against the claims and demand of all manner of persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same IN TESTIMONY whereof the said James Crutcher and Nancy his wife have hereto set their hands and affixed their seals the day year first before mentioned Signed Sealed & delivered In presence of James Crutcher (seal) Nancy Crutcher (seal) Jessamine County Court Clerks Office 8th of May, 1801 I Samuel H. Beginning at a poplar, hickory & sycamore trees on the east bank of the creek corner to Presley Thornton's 1000 acre Entry and running thence south forty three west two hundred and seventy seven poles to two poplars and a hickory thence south seventy two east two hundred and twenty three poles to a sugar tree dogwood and black oak thence south sixty east one hundred and twenty poles to a forked walnut and black oak thence north seventy seven east one hundred and twenty poles to three white oaks thence north sixty seven east one hundred and twenty poles to three white oaks thence north six west sixty poles to an ash and two beeches on the bank of the creek thence south sixty east sixteen poles to a sugar tree and birch thence north fifteen west seventy eight poles to a white oak hickory and beech thence north sixty west two hundred and forty poles to the BEGINNING containing the full quantity of four hundred and fifty five acres it being the same tract of land which was granted to the said James Crutcher as assignee of Thornton Taylor (and within the district set apart for the officers and soldiers of the Continental line) by patent bearing date the seventeenth day of June, 1799, together with all and singular it's appurtenances TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto the said Obediah Newman and his heirs and assigns to his and their own proper use benefit and behoove forever free and clear of & from all manner of encumbrances and the said James Crutcher and Nancy his wife for themselves and their heirs Exrs. & etc. in and with the said Obediah Newman and his heirs & assigns forever (p. 209) do hereby grant covenant and agree that the before described & hereby conveyed tract of land with its appurtenances and every part and parcel thereof he and they shall and will warrant and forever defend against the claim and demand of all manner of persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same In Testimony whereof the said James Crutcher and Nancy his wife have hereto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first mentioned Signed sealed and delivered James Crutcher (seal) In presence of Nancy Crutcher (seal) Jessamine County Court Clerk's office 8th May 1801 I Samuel H. Woodson THIS INDENTURE made this 18th day of August in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred between Anthony Sadowsky of the county of Washington and Mary Evans, William Evans, David Evans Nathaniel Evans, John Welch and Mary his wife John McKinney & Hannah his wife William McConnell and Rebekah his wife of the county of Jessamine and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and John Lowry the legates of James Lowry deceased Melvin Lowry of the county of Jessamine and Commonwealth aforesaid of the other part WITNESSETH that the said Anthony Sadowsky Mary Evans etc. for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings current money of Kentucky to them in hand paid the receipt whereof (p. 210) they do hereby acknowledge and forever acquit and discharge the said John Lowry etc. their heirs Exrs. and administrators & hath granted bargained sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said John Lowry etc. their heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Jessamine and on the waters of Jessamine creek it being part of a preemption of one thousand acres obtained by Nathaniel Evans assignee of Anthony Sadowsky Viz. DCCK This Indenture, made this 19th day of October one thousand eight hundred between James Daugherty of the one part & Joseph Hughes of the other part all of Jessamine County WITNESSETH that the said James Daugherty for and in consideration of three hundred and twenty pounds to him in hand paid the receipt whereof he hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by these presents bargain sell & make over to the said Joseph Hughes a certain tract or parcel of land upon which he now lives being and lying in county of Jessamine on the waters of Clear Creek and bounded as follows (to wit) BEGINNING at a red oak and two honey locusts corner to Thos. Scott's thence s. 224 west 132 poles to a stake corner to Joseph Hughes thence with his line S. 67 E. 129 poles to a hickory and locust thence south 20 W. 23 poles to the middle of a pond in Joseph Hughes line thence S 67 E. 59 poles to a honey locust and red oak thence N 20 E. 161 poles to a hickory & elm in the Thos. Scott's line thence N. 70 W. 173 poles to the beginning containing one hundred and fifty eight acres more or less to have and to hold the said tract of land with its appurtenances to the said Joseph Hughes and his heirs forever and the said James Daugherty doth for himself his heirs exrs. McKinney DC p. 215) THIS INDENTURE made this 31st day of January one thousand eight hundred and one between Patrick Gray deputy Sheriff of Jessamine County for Charles West Sheriff of the county aforesaid of the first part and Jesse Reynolds of the county aforesaid and state of Kentucky of the other part Witnessed that whereas by virtue of an execution issued from the Lexington District court in favor of David Mc Clellen against the estate of Benjamin Netherland for fifty pounds as debt and eighty seven cents costs the said Patrick Gray as deputy sheriff aforesaid agreeably to the direction of the said Benjamin Netherland exposed to sale nine hundred and sixty acres of land hereafter described and sold the same to the said Jesse Reynolds by public auction for fifty pounds and the eighty seven cents costs as aforesaid the receipt whereof he the said Patrick doth hereby acknowledge and forever acquit the said Jesse doth grant bargain and sell unto him the said Jesse for and in consideration of the sum aforesaid nine hundred and sixty acres of land lying and being in the county of Jessamine and bounded as follows (to wit) Beginning on the waters of Jessamine, at a black walnut and hackberry corner and Beginning of Samuel Drakes preemption of one thousand acres running thence south 80 west 100 poles to two white oaks and black ash thence south 10 degrees east 307 poles and five links 3 white oaks thence north 80 east five hundred poles crossing Jessamine creek at 160 poles and 220 poles to a dogwood white oak and black oak thence north 10 west 307 poles and five links to a red and white oak thence north eighty west 400 poles to the beginning TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said land together with its premises to the only proper use and behoove of the said Jesse and his heirs forever and the said Patrick Gray doth for himself and his heirs as deputy sheriff aforesaid warrant and defend Benjamin Netherland's right and title to the before mentioned tract of land against the claim of the said Netherland In Witness whereof & hath hereunto set his hand this date above written. Woodson THIS INDENTURE made this 31st of January in the year of our lord eighteen hundred one between Samuel Johnson of the state of Kentucky and county of Jessamine of the one part & George Carlisle of the state aforesaid and county of Woodford of the other part Witnessed that the said Samuel Johnson for and in consideration of the sum of Five hundred pounds justly own to the said George Carlisle do by these presents for and in consideration of the aforesaid George Carlisle taken to himself the following property for the securing of the above sum of five hundred pounds to paid the said Carlisle on or before the first day of April next ensuing all that parcel and article parcels and articles following (to wit) a Negro named Ceasar aged about thirty five years, a Negro boy named Rheuben aged seventeen years, a negro bot named Daniel aged nine years, a negro boy named Isaac aged eight or nine years, a Negro woman named Jane aged twenty two years, a negro woman named Sally aged thirty, a Negro girl named Jamimy aged fourteen years, a Negro girl named Betsy aged seven or eight years old, a Negro boy named Joseph aged four years old, a Negro boy named William aged about fifteen months, also a bay mare eight years old two bay horses aged one seven years old and the other nine a bay mare & colt mare eight years old and I do hereby invest the above property in the said George Carlisle for the special purpose of the payment of the sd. five hundred pounds and the said Samuel Johnson do hereby warrant and defend the aforesaid property from all & every person or (p. 217) persons whatsoever to the said George Carlisle his heirs and assigns forever. Walker Jessamine County (to wit) 18th May 1801 The within indenture between Samuel Johnson of the one part and George Carslile of the other was produced before me proven to be the act of the said Samuel by the oath of B. Netherland & Geo.Walker subscribing witnesses thereto and is duly recorded in this office. Testee J. McKinney D.C. This indenture made the 19th day of January in the year of our lord one Thousand eight hundred and one between William Anderson of the County of Jessamine and Commonwealth of Kentucky of the one part and Martin Whip of the county and commonwealth aforesaid of the other part Witnessed that the said William Anderson for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty pounds current money of Kentucky to him in hand paid the receipt whereof he do hereby acknowledge and forever acquit and discharge the said Martin Whip his heirs executors and administrators have granted bargained sold aliened and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said Martin Whip his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land situate lying and being on the waters of Hickman creek in the aforesaid county and bounded as follows (to wit) BEGINNING at a hickory dogwood and white oak in David McKeys line running north five degrees west eighty poles to a black and white oak thence north seventy degrees west forty one poles to two white oak thence south five degrees east eighty poles to a red and white oak in said McKeys line thence with line to the beginning containing twenty acres together with all improvements water courses profits and appurtenances whatsoever to the said premises belonging to in any wise appertaining and the reversions remainders and profits thereof and all the estate right title interest property claim and demand of (p. 218) him the said William Anderson of in and to the same to have and to hold the lands hereby conveyed with all & singular the premises and every part and parcel thereof with every of the appurtenances unto the said Martin Whip and the said William Anderson for himself his heirs executors and administrators do covenant promise and agree to [ ] with the said Martin Whip his heirs and assigns by these presents that the premises before mentioned now are and forever hereafter shall remain free of and from all former and other gifts grants bargains sales dowers rights & titles of dower judgments executions titles troubles charges and encumbrances whatsoever done or suffered to be done by him the said William Anderson or any other person or persons whatsoever and the said William Anderson and his heirs all & singular the premises hereby bargained and sold with the appetencies unto the said Martin Whip his heirs and assigns against him the said William Anderson and his heirs and assigns and all every other person or persons whatsoever doth and will warrant & forever defend by these presents In Witness whereof he the said William Anderson have hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. Anderson (seal) presence of us Jessamine County Court Clerks office 19th January 1801 The within indenture between William Anderson of the one part and Martin Whip of the other part was produced before me acknowledged by said William to be his act and deed and is duly recorded in my office. Testee Saml. H. Woodson (p. 219) Know all men by these presents that I Jacob Need of the state of Kentucky and county of Garrard do by these presents nominate constitute and appoint Geo. Walker of the state aforesaid my true and lawful attorney in fact for me and in my name to sue for demand and to receive of Peter Fairsney and Armsted Stubblefield the amount of a bond given by them to me for four hundred and fifty six dollars or a deed for two hundred and twenty eight acres of land situated between the waters of Peytons and Dixon's creek and I do further authorize and inform my said attorney to give receipts in my name for the money or a deed to appoint attorneys or attorney for me and in my behalf and to do such further act or acts as he shall deem necessary. I hereby ratify and confirm all my said attorney shall lawfully do in the premise[ ] and such his act or acts shall be as effectual as though I myself were personally present given under my hand and seal this 15th June 1801. Woodson clerk of the county aforesaid do certify that the within letter of attorney from Jacob Need to George Walker was produced in court acknowledged by the said Jacob to be his act and deed and ordered to be recorded & certified.
