McClure - Shelby House - This house is located on land that
was originally a 1000 acre English Land Grant awarded to John Poston in
1774. Poston was an officer in the French and Indian war. When the Revolutionary
War began John Poston remained loyal to the British Crown, and lost his
land here. The land was later sold to John McClure. This house was built
by Andrew McClure, son of the Rev. Andrew McClure of Bourbon County. Andrew
McClure married Rachel S. Barton, a daughter of John Barton. They had a
daughter Sarah McClure who married Isaac Shelby, a grand-son of Isaac Shelby,
first Governor of Kentucky. |
