Recognition of Ernestine Hamm by SAR
Our long time member - Ernestine Hamm - was recognized for all her hard work with the Jessamine County Historical Society by the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution). At our July 22, 2021 quarterly meeting, Ernestine was awarded with the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal, the Martha Washington Medal, and the SAR Medal of Appreciation Medal. Members of the SAR that attended were Patrick Wesolosky, Nick Blevins, Patrick Parker, and Steve Gahafer.

Carl Hamilton, U. S. Navy, served as a gunner aboard liberty ships in the South Pacific during WWII. Pictured with him are Natalie Domanico, Court Reporter Assoc. & Dennis Traynor.

Lt. Col. Cecil Grimes, U. S. Army, served as a PFC medic in WWII, receiving wounds in both legs. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Army Reserves before being called into active duty during the Korean War. One of the Army's first medical helicopter pilots, he served as Executive Officer of a medical unit in Vietnam prior to his retirement.

Inez Wilson served in the Women's Army Corp. during WWII. Her overseas service was primarily on jungle islands in the Philippines and New Guinea area.

R. L. Slusher, U. S. Army, served on an amphibious boat during WWII. Though R. L. was his given name, he was designated Robert Lee upon his induction to the Army since the military would not allow initials only.

Dale Cheney, U. S. Army Air Corps., known as the Air Force today, was assigned to a headquarters billet in Hawaii and Guam. He met several generals, including "Hap" Arnold and General Lemay.

Robert J. Rhodeus, U. S. Army Air Corps., known as the Air Force today, was a staff Sergeant in the 5th Air Force from 1946 to 1949.
